How to brief a custom chair supplier before sampling
The information buyers should align before a chair moves from inspiration image to a controlled sample.
Start with use, not appearance
State where the chair will be used, expected traffic, user profile and required service life. A chair for a private bedroom and a chair for a hotel lobby may look similar but need different construction, upholstery and testing decisions.
Include the target market and any project standard supplied by the operator, designer or local consultant.
Lock the decision points
Provide target dimensions, reference images, finish samples, fabric specifications, comfort expectations and any packing constraints. Mark which details are fixed and which may be value-engineered.
Before sampling, agree how colour, grain, hand feel and approved deviations will be recorded. These become the basis for the sealed sample and later inspection.
Ask for export-ready data
A useful quotation should identify proposed materials, packing method, carton dimensions, gross weight, MOQ, sample timing, production lead time and what remains subject to testing or final engineering.
